Date: Sunday March 15, 2026 9:30-11:30
Location: Wolf Tree Forest, 1630 Country Club Rd. Brandon
Join Len Schmidt and Jennie Masterson of Wolf Tree Forest and County Forester Mark Raishart for a walk in the woods and workshop for all ages to learn how to use touch, smell and sight to identify common Vermont trees and shrubs during the winter months, focusing on their twig, needle, bark and bud characteristics as well as their shape and habitat. We'll talk about common native and non-native species and suggest resources that participants can use on their own.
Please dress appropriately for this outdoor activity and bring a water bottle and snowshoes if possible and necessary. The walk will be around 1 mile on uneven and sloping terrain. Wood-fired pizza when we get back from the woods.
This free event is offered through the peer-to-peer network of Vermont Coverts and the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation.
Wolf Tree Forest is a wild, working woodlot in Brandon. In addition to hosting educational workshops, residents Jennie Masterson and Len Schmidt actively manage the forest for wildlife, resilience, timber, and diversity.
