Welcome to the Neshobe Current, your future online/electronic hub for news, events, sports, history and general happenings about town and the surrounding areas. This newsletter endeavors to fill the information vacuum left when The Brandon Reporter closed operations after being the exemplary newspaper of record in one form or another since the 1800s.
With a dedicated team of six volunteer members coordinating this new effort, the plan is to bring back well-loved features written by past contributors, introducing new writers with a nose for news and/or general interest subjects, and reporting on events ourselves. Additionally, we hope to include a calendar of events, student art, puzzles, and a comic or two.
Our business model will be one of non-profit sponsorship/underwriting support a la public radio or Wikipedia. There will be no paywalls cutting you off from the rest of a story or corporate advertising. Instead of paid subscriptions, we will reach out to the community at large for support financial or otherwise. Being “free” and online, our costs will be relatively minimal, but there are Web hosting, platform functionality, and backoffice expenses.
It will take a river of people power to accomplish the goal of having a sustainable publication keeping our communities well informed. If you are able to devote your interests or talents in helping this publication thrive, please fill out this form.
One final thing: Due to the timing of the event in Pittsford, we have put together this first edition a little sooner than we were expecting, as we’ve not been able to gather all the content that will typically go in an edition.
Thanks for reading. Thanks for caring. Thanks for the support.
