New Town Website for Brandon

As of February 9, 2026: The Town is no longer adding any new information or updating existing information on this website (townofbrandon.com). The Town’s official website brandonvermont.gov is the only website the Town will keep current going forward. The old website will remain online as a frozen-in-amber archive for some time. All are encouraged to visit brandonvermont.gov and use the “Notify Me” function there to be made aware, by your choice of email or text message, of new meeting agendas, notices, announcements, and so forth.

Respectfully submitted, Seth Hopkins, town manager

Caverly Pre-K Program Reinstated Following Misinterpreted Vote

The complaint was regarding two actions taken at the board’s Jan. 6 meeting: one to move a pre-kindergarten program from Otter Creek Academy at Whiting to Otter Creek Academy at Leicester, and one to move the Caverly pre-kindergarten program to Lothrop Elementary School. While both were approved, neither were warned on the board’s agenda.

The board has since argued that, per its own counsel, the votes were legal in part because they were items being considered under the budget, which was warned on the agenda.

Brandon Chamber: Beating Cabin Fever

Greetings and salutations, friends and neighbors. As we head toward March, we are hopeful warmer breezes will usher in an early and much, much warmer spring. It’s somehow comforting how small villages in our small state enjoy the forced cabin fever by gathering round the home fires in warmth and familial joy. Puzzles come out, card games rage on, trivia becomes not quite so trivial, and toasty socks and cozy sweaters make the dark days much more bearable.

But if you’re ready to venture out, snuggled in your snow gear, head on up to Brandon and pop into our shops, slide into the barstool at our pubs or grab some tasty treats in our various restaurants and eateries. Our super walkable downtown means you park once and enjoy all we have to offer within easy walking distance.

From the BIDCC Committee

BIDCC members – The all-volunteer community members who give their time to creating a fun, respectful, meaningful and safe day-long event – have made the decision to hold the 2026 event on Friday, July 3, instead of Saturday, July 4.

While tradition does show that Brandon’s event has historically been on the Saturday closest to the 4th, and it would seem logical that this year, with the 4th being on a Saturday, that Brandon would hold their event that day, it actually created more logistical and practical problems than solutions.

No matter what day of the week the event is held, traffic will come to a stop on Route 7 for the duration of the parade. That is the only time in the entire day, about one hour, that Park St and Route 7 traffic will be rerouted. Being that there are detours around town both to the east and west which might incur an extra 5-10 minutes of travel time, we hope that is the worst of the inconveniences people have to endure.

Committee members welcome your ideas and volunteer help to help make Brandon’s celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence a memorable day. The BIDCC meetings are open to the public. The next one is March 18 at 5:00 at the town offices. Those who would like to voice their concerns are welcome.
