ORWELL, Vt. — Two people were involved in a single-vehicle accident on the evening of March 15. Passenger Michael Guess, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene, and driver Aron G. Therrien, 27, was seriously injured. Both were graduates of Otter Valley Union High School and lived in Brandon.

The accident happened on Old Sawmill Rd. near the intersection with Vail Rd. The pair were in a 2009 Honda Civic. Therrien suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to UVM Medical Center.

The Vermont State Police report that the occupants were trapped in the vehicle, which was pressed up against trees. The Orwell Fire Department removed them from the car.

The Addison Independent reports that an investigation is ongoing. However, police suspect that alcohol and speed were contributing factors to this crash. Police also said the gravel road was clear and dry.
