BRANDON, Vt. — House Rep. Todd Nielsen announced at the Brandon GOP meeting on Wednesday March 18 that he would not be seeking re-election. In a release from Scott E. Scribner, the Brandon GOP Chairperson, Nielsen was quoted as saying that he was grateful for the trust and support and that "serving as your state representative has been one of the greatest privileges of my life." While Nielsen will not be running again, he said he remained committed to serving out the rest of his term which ends on January 6, 2027. Read Nielsen's full statement on his Facebook page.

Nielsen encouraged others who supported his values and wanted to continue his work to reach out to the Brandon GOP. Reducing state expenditures has been a focus of his time in office. Scribner said that members of the Brandon GOP expressed their appreciation of Nielsen’s dedication and acknowledged the challenges of the position.

Individuals exploring candidacy for the office are encouraged to attend the next meeting on April 15 at the Stephen A Douglas Birthplace, located at 4 Grove Street in Brandon.
