A statement from Chief David Kachajian (Brandon Police Department):
On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at approximately 2:38 p.m the Brandon Police Department responded to the area of 46 Park Street in the Town of Brandon for a report of a suspicious white pick up truck revving its engine. The caller reported that her neighbor had been having issues with a male that would not leave her alone and that she was concerned that the male in the truck might try and break into her neighbor’s residence. She also indicated that her neighbor was not currently home. When the responding officer arrived on scene, he observed a white Toyota pick up truck parked in front of 46 Park Street with a male inside and the engine of the vehicle revving constantly. As the officer approached the truck, a nearby resident yelled to the officer that the person in the truck had a gun, and at that point the officer backed off and requested for additional officers to respond to the scene. Additional officers from the Brandon Police Department as well as a detective from the Vermont State Police arrived on scene a short time later. Park Street was immediately shut down to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic by troopers, who arrived to assist, and a safety perimeter was set up around the vehicle. Both officers from Brandon Police and Vermont State Police made a tactical approach to the vehicle and were able to determine that the male inside of the truck was deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Two handguns were recovered from the deceased individual that he had in his possession on his person. The body was later transported to the State of Vermont Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington for an autopsy. This incident is still under investigation by the Brandon Police Department. The family of the victim was notified of the death, but at this time, due to the ongoing investigation still being conducted, the name of the subject will not be released.
